Bus tours in the Sea Lapland area have a touch of the two countries and a glimpse for the times under the Swedish and Russian rule. In your mind you can travel back to for example beginning of the 1900s when the soldiers marched frequently in the city centres.
When the industrial growth gave wealth to the people living on the countryside, they got a chance to earn more and show off their gold pocket clocks. The border has throughout history given a chance to trade in a legal or illegal way. The smuggling has made people come up with many inspirational ways to transport goods over the border.

There are many stories about the people who have climbed to the towers of churches, such as the ones measuring the shape of the earth. Here you can sense the stories of the cities by the sea. Once a passenger ship came to port and local tradesmen decided to enjoy a few drinks onboard.
During the evening the tradesmen drank quite a few drinks and the boat was turned to face the other direction. The tradesmen didn’t notice that the boat had turned and their evening ended with a dip in the sea.
